Hello!

Hi, my name is Marc (see photo reference) and thanks for checking out Both/And, my current weird home on the internet.

Both/And is my attempt to think through two longer projects I’ve been noodling for a number of years in preparation for maybe actually writing books! At first I was going to start two different projects but then I thought “Why not both!” and so here we are. And I’ll probably write about some other things along the way.

Both/And also represents my desire to flout genre—aggressively and consistently. My work consistently blends academia, personal essay, poetry, and multimedia and I used to be self-conscious about that but I’m trying not to do that anymore!

The things that will be posted here are essays, readings of those essays (I always read my work directly, so if you click the play button it’ll be my voice and not a robot!), and video essays where I go deeper into topics I’m not prepared to write about yet but am definitely ready to rant about.

I’ll usually publish at least one post a week (typically on Thursdays) for free subscribers and usually other things for paid subscribers. With the rest of my time I’m a policy strategist, amateur kickboxer and coach, and dog owner.
